‘What’s On (with a difference)?’ is back again! 

In this October edition, we bring you the latest activities and online events to keep the whole family entertained this spring. 

When: Every Friday, 4pm

Shake off the home learning jitters and rock it out with the Kids Disco Parties every Friday afternoon. This event is organised and run by Kids Disco Parties, a Melbourne based group of Teacher/DJ Entertainers who usually host discos for kid’s birthdays, school and kinder discos. So, every Friday make sure to join in on the fun and rock it out online.

Invite your friends and help spread the word, but make sure to register, then check your email for the join link.

Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition 2020

Submission deadline: Friday 16 October

Unleash your artistic talents with the Casey Creations Youth Arts Competition. This competition is a creative arts competition for young people in Grade 5 – Year 12 who live, work or study within the City of Casey. The annual competition is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the talent of students by showcasing their work to the community. The competition is split into two categories, Visual Arts and Photography. There is no theme for the competition, all that’s mandatory is your creativity!

Free Online Zumba Gold classes

When: Every Monday, 10am

Want to get back into the swing of exercise this spring? This free Zumba class is for you! Designed for seniors, beginners and others wanting to keep active at a lower intensity, Zumba Gold is a modified version of Zumba Fitness. Combining dance and fitness moves, in both fast and slow rhythms to help tone the body, presented live via Zoom by a qualified PT/fitness instructor.

Berwick Artists Society Group Painting Group

When: Every Thursday, 10am (starting 8 October)
Where:
Old Cheese Factory, 34 Homestead Road, Berwick

Get in touch with your creative side and join the Berwick Artists Society Thursday Painting group sessions. These classes foster all forms of visual art by offering beneficial activities that will enhance artistic knowledge, skills and opportunities within a supportive social environment. With restrictions easing, these sessions are set to resume at the Old Cheese Factory as of Thursday 8 October.

Explore State Library of Victoria’s Collection

Explore State Library of Victoria’s (SLV) digital collection from the comfort of your own home. As well as books, the collections include thousands of photographs, personal manuscripts and diaries, maps, old magazines and journals, newspapers, comics, and even old advertising and theatre programs!

Dive into the image pool to see Victoria’s history brought to life in more than 170,000 assets including images, maps and architectural drawings. To begin your exploration, head to the SLV website.

Petrina Hicks: Bleached Gothic Virtual Tour

Take a virtual tour of the National Gallery of Victoria’s Bleached Gothic exhibition brought to you by the celebrated Australian photographer, Petrina Hicks. Over her 15-year career, the Sydney-based artist has gained a strong reputation for her eccentric and multi-layered photographs. The exhibition includes more than forty photographs and video works spanning the period 2003 to 2019.
